What you will need before the camera goes in
The Rove R2-4K PRO mounts in a car and records 4K UHD at 2160p 30fps, or 2.5K at 60fps. It uses a 150-degree six-glass lens on a Sony IMX335 sensor with an f1.5 aperture.
You need a microSD card up to 512GB, sold separately, and ROVE recommends its own cards. For parking mode you also need a hardwire kit that is not included.
Our advice is to plan those two extras first, because the camera cannot store footage or run its parking modes without them.

What it will not do
The R2-4K PRO records and stamps routes, speed and compass readings from its built-in GPS. It is not a repair tool and it will not diagnose a fault in your car.
Its 24-hour parking modes cover 1fps timelapse, motion detection and collision detection, and an event locks a one-minute clip that you hear about on the next start. That is recording coverage, not a security guarantee.
It records driving and parked events, not mechanical faults.
Parking capture depends on the hardwire kit and a power source.

Power, mounting and card checks
A supercapacitor handles the camera's power instead of a battery, and the parking modes need a hardwire kit wired to a constant and switched supply. Check whether you are comfortable with that connection before buying.
The LCD shows live speed and compass, and the dual-band 5.8GHz and 2.4GHz WiFi pairs with the ROVE app on iOS or Android for viewing, downloading and settings. Confirm your phone connects on the band you pick.
Firmware updates come over the air through that app, so leave a card in the camera and keep the app installed.
