Commanding Components Takes More Than Reading Codes

XTOOL adds injectors, ABS pumps and A/C clutches, while TOPDON includes door locks, windows and windshield wipers. Those are concrete actions an owner can request during diagnosis, beyond reading a stored fault code.
The important distinction is between general vehicle compatibility and support for a particular command. Innova directs owners to its Coverage Checker. GEARWRENCH's GWSMART07 manual says available special functions can change with the model, system, year and ECU type. An OBD2 connection alone therefore does not promise every actuator test. Check the intended function for the exact vehicle, and follow the tool's required test conditions. Protected networks introduce another requirement: GEARWRENCH specifies proper authentication for the GWSMART05, while XTOOL identifies an optional FCA gateway bypass cable.

Innova's FCA access statement is dated July 2025: it says access was unavailable then and describes plans for a free release in late 2025 or early 2026, limited to the latest 5610 versions. That announcement describes a planned release rather than current availability.
TOPDON ArtiDiag Pro
The TOPDON ArtiDiag Pro is a diagnostic tablet that drives actuators within vehicle-specific subsystems. TOPDON names lights, door locks, fuel injectors, fuel pumps, coolant pumps, windows, windshield wipers and EVAP among its component and system examples. That gives owners several specific functions to look up in TOPDON's Vehicle Coverage Tool before choosing it for a particular job. The ArtiDiag Pro also has a Combine function that displays up to four data streams graphically on one interface. TOPDON lists online coding for VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Porsche, BMW and Mini, plus a guided function for VW.

Its manual instructs owners to insert the VCI box into the vehicle's OBD-II port and verify that its power indicator illuminates. For a specific service-function limitation, the manual says some vehicles require manual brake bleeding because they do not support automatic bleeding. GEARWRENCH's manual cautions that brake fluid is under pressure during this process, and says to secure the bleed hose and open bleeder screws slowly.
GEARWRENCH says the GWSMART07 comes with a blow molded case. GEARWRENCH's specifications list three years of free software updates, with a yearly charge after the third year. The page's feature list separately claims four years. Setup involves connecting to Wi-Fi and proceeding to the activation page, according to its manual. Owners can register a new GEARWRENCH Diagnostics account or sign in to an existing one. The manual also offers a Trial option that skips that step, but warns that trial functionality is limited.
