Check OBD-II and battery fitment first
Confirm two things before you buy. Your car needs a standard OBD-II port, and the battery you want to test needs to fall inside the supported 100 to 2000 CCA range.
Coverage runs from 1996 onward for U.S. and Asian models, and from 1998 onward for European ones. The supported OBD-II protocols include two J1850 variants, plus the older ISO and KWP standards and CAN.
Battery chemistry support covers flooded and AGM types along with GEL, EFB, flat and spiral designs. We'd consider this a sensible pick for a driver who wants code reading and battery health from one handheld unit. We'd skip it if you need bidirectional controls or module-level diagnostics beyond standard OBD-II.

What it will not do
This is a diagnostic tool, not a repair device. It reads and clears fault codes, tracks live data, runs O2 sensor and EVAP tests, and pulls freeze frame and vehicle info. It will not fix the underlying mechanical or electrical fault.
The battery tester assesses health, charging and cranking behavior and helps you decide whether to recharge, retain or replace a battery. It does not charge anything, so a flat battery still needs a charger or a jump start.
It also offers an I/M hotkey with an S-M-O-G test page for emissions inspection preparation. That helps you find faults before an official test, but it does not make a non-compliant vehicle pass.
It reads and clears codes but does not repair or charge anything.

Check the OBD-II port and power-up
The unit plugs into the OBD-II port and powers up in seconds. No app is required and there is no complex setup between you and a scan.
The 2.8-inch screen is larger than the usual 2.4-inch displays and supports 16 preset languages. It is compact enough for glove-box storage, so make sure your port is reachable and the cable does not block the pedals or footwell.
For battery testing, confirm your battery's CCA rating sits between 100 and 2000 before you rely on the result. Check the label on the battery itself rather than assuming a figure.
Who should choose this scanner
Choose it if you want one tool for engine codes and 12V battery checks on a supported OBD-II vehicle. The I/M hotkey helps with emissions inspection preparation, and live data covers coolant temperature, RPM and sensor outputs.
Skip it if your vehicle predates OBD-II coverage or your battery falls outside the 100 to 2000 CCA range. Also skip it if you need manufacturer-specific functions beyond the standard OBD-II modes.
Before you buy, verify your port location and your battery's CCA rating. Those two checks determine whether this scanner suits the job you have in mind. If both line up, the two-in-one design saves you carrying separate tools.
