Check whether your truck is heavy duty or light
The HD430 is aimed at heavy duty trucks, and that word does most of the work here. It runs on 12V and 24V systems and ships with diesel connectors for CAT-9 plus the 6-pin and 9-pin plugs, alongside a standard OBDII 16-pin cable. Its protocol coverage spans the common heavy duty and passenger-car standards, including J1939 and J1708 for trucks and the usual OBDII set for cars.
We'd consider it for a Cummins or Caterpillar truck, since those are the engines with DPF reset and forced regeneration support. It also reads the engine, ABS, transmission and fuel system, and the built-in DTC lookup explains what a stored code means before you clear it.
Here is the part that decides the purchase. On pickups and light trucks, the HD430 only does OBDII and EOBD engine diagnostics. No DPF regeneration, no heavy duty OBD.

What it will not do
It cannot regenerate a DPF outside the Cummins and Caterpillar coverage, and it cannot reach heavy duty systems on a pickup or light truck. If your truck falls into that light category, this is an engine-code reader, not the full diesel tool the box suggests.
It also is not a repair. A DPF reset or forced regeneration follows the conditions the tool sets, and a scan result does not certify that your truck is fit for the road. Read the codes, do the maintenance, then rescan.
We recommend confirming chassis class and engine brand before ordering, because a pickup gets engine-only OBDII support.
Add the connectors your truck needs to your list: CAT-9, 6-pin diesel or 9-pin diesel, plus the standard 16-pin.

The HD430 is $239.99 against a typical price of $258.17 over the last 90 days, a difference of $18.18. That also matches the lowest price on record, so if you have been circling this scanner, the current number is the one to compare against.
The usual question is whether diagnostics subscriptions pile on later. ANCEL says the HD430 updates over WiFi for life at no extra charge, and it covers English and Spanish menus.
What to have ready before you scan
A charged 12V or 24V battery matters, since DPF work and full-system scans draw on the truck's power while the ignition is on. Confirm which connector your truck's diagnostic port uses before you plug anything in, and check that the port itself is live and reachable.
The unit runs a 4.3-inch screen with 8G of memory, 8G of TF storage and 2.4G WiFi for updates. Set it up somewhere with a stable network before an update, and pick your unit of measurement so live data reads the way you expect.
Sort out where the scan happens too. Some DPF procedures are best done somewhere with ventilation and no traffic behind you, and ANCEL's instructions cover the sequence the scanner expects.
Who should buy this and who should skip it
Buy it if your truck is heavy duty with a Cummins or Caterpillar engine, you want to read and clear diesel fault codes yourself, and DPF reset and forced regeneration are the jobs you actually need. The connector kit, protocol list and lifetime updates suit a truck owner or small shop that would otherwise pay someone else for every scan.
Skip it if your truck is a pickup or light duty, if your engine is not covered, or if you want a tool that works on several brands without checking each one. For a light truck, the same money buys a much simpler OBDII reader.
Before you order, confirm three things on your own vehicle: engine make, whether the truck is heavy duty or light, and which diagnostic connector it has. That check is the whole decision with this scanner.
