Volkswagen unveiled the electric ID. Tiguan today, with pre-sales scheduled for 13 October in Germany and many other European countries at prices from 42,695 euros (opens in a new tab). Volkswagen plans an early 2027 launch, replacing the ID.4 and ID.5 while retaining the petrol, diesel and hybrid Tiguan alongside it.

The 77 kWh battery will serve both the 220 kW (299 PS) 4MOTION all-wheel drive model and a rear-wheel drive model producing 210 kW (286 PS). A separate rear-wheel drive version pairs a 58 kWh battery with 140 kW (190 PS). Volkswagen projects WLTP range of up to 600 km, with the result dependent on battery size and power.

For towing, Volkswagen specifies up to 2,000 kg with the 77 kWh battery and up to 1,800 kg with the 58 kWh battery. The five-seat SUV adds a 32-litre frunk, while luggage compartment capacity reaches up to 534 litres. Physical controls return for basic climate functions, steering-wheel operation and audio adjustments, and the exterior uses pull-style door handles.

How to get it

Buyers will have four equipment versions to choose from, including R-Line and Trend, plus Style and Life. One-pedal driving is standard, while front-seat ventilation and massage are optional, as is the Harman Kardon audio system rated at 480 watts.

The cabin introduces a 15-inch central infotainment screen and a 10-inch Digital Cockpit, with a 12-inch co-driver display also available. Volkswagen says privacy mode hides the co-driver display from the driver and lets the passenger use paired Bluetooth headphones for audio. Two Qi2 charging points use magnetic rings to hold compatible smartphones in position.
