Volkswagen is recalling certain 2023-2026 ID.4 vehicles because a failure of the high voltage battery could cause the vehicle to catch fire (opens in a new tab). The recall covers a potentially affected population of 22,524 vehicles, and NHTSA notes that a fire raises the risk of injury.

NHTSA received the recall report on September 30, 2026, and assigned campaign number 26V630000. Volkswagen identifies the recall as 93EX, with the affected component classified as ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.

What owners should do

Owners are advised to cap charging at 80% battery capacity until their vehicle's repair is complete. Volkswagen is still developing the remedy. Interim letters explaining the safety risk are expected to go out on November 27, 2026, followed by another mailing when the remedy becomes available.
