Volkswagen reports almost 150,000 orders across its Electric Urban Car Family before customer deliveries have started, covering a European lineup of four entry-level electric models (opens in a new tab). The family will make its first joint appearance at the Paris Motor Show.

The hatchback choices are Volkswagen ID. Polo and CUPRA Raval, while Volkswagen ID. Cross and Škoda Epiq are electric SUVs. All four use MEB+ and have front wheel drive, with shared battery and electric drivetrain technology.

Volkswagen says more than 80 percent of the family's components and technologies are identical, allowing the brands to share development, purchasing and manufacturing work. The company says the models retain differences in their design, driving experience and functionality despite that common engineering.

Where production and deliveries stand

Orders have reached that combined total following the models' individual world premieres, with deliveries still ahead. Production is split between two sites in Spain: Pamplona builds the SUVs, while Martorell manufactures the hatchbacks.

The wider transition involves investment totalling ten billion euros in Spain from SEAT & CUPRA, Brand Group Core, PowerCo and partners in the “Future Fast Forward” initiative. That programme includes PowerCo's Sagunto battery cell factory and 300 million euros from SEAT & CUPRA for battery system assembly in Martorell.
