Volkswagen has opened German pre-sale today for the ID. Polo GTI from 39,995 euros. The company quotes an output of 166 kW (226 PS) (opens in a new tab) and up to 424 km of WLTP range from a battery with 52 kWh of net capacity. The pricing and equipment specifications reported here are Volkswagen's figures for Germany; other countries may differ.
The front-wheel-drive model produces 290 Nm, with Volkswagen quoting a 6.8-second sprint from rest to 100 km/h and a maximum speed of 190 km/h. Standard chassis equipment pairs adaptive DCC sports suspension with progressive steering and an electronically controlled differential lock on the front axle. Selecting the GTI driving profile through a steering-wheel button changes the drive, steering and suspension settings, alongside sound and cockpit graphics.
Cargo capacity is 441 litres, compared with 351 litres in the combustion-engine Polo GTI, and folding the rear backrests provides up to 1,240 litres. The cabin combines a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit with a 12.9-inch infotainment screen. Sports seats and 19-inch alloy wheels are standard.

Charging and options
Volkswagen quotes DC charging power of up to 105 kW and around 24 minutes to raise the battery level from 10 percent to 80 percent. The navigation system's e-route planner automatically adds charging stops when the route requires them.
Buyers can specify a detachable tow bar with a 75 kg nose weight, suitable for a carrier holding two e-bikes. Other options include front seats offering 12-way electric adjustment and pneumatic massage, plus a Harman Kardon audio system rated at 425 watts.
