Autonomy has added the Volkswagen ID.4 electric vehicle to its subscription lineup, and the vehicle is available immediately in California (opens in a new tab). Subscribers book the ID.4 through the Autonomy app. The company says more Volkswagen models are expected in additional markets.
Autonomy's recent additions also include gasoline-powered Ford vehicles, among them the F-150 and Bronco Sport.
How the subscription works
Autonomy says its subscriptions run month to month. Customers pay an initial fee, then recurring monthly charges by credit card. According to the company, subscribers need not apply for a loan, and the subscription adds no debt to their credit file.
The company says customers can complete digital enrollment in minutes. It also says it manages vehicle titles, registration and licensing, and offers insurance choices plus coverage for maintenance and servicing.
Fred Weick said, "Consumers increasingly want an easier, more transparent way of getting a vehicle". He added, "It is a less complicated and hence faster solution than traditional car buying or leasing." Autonomy was founded by Scott Painter and Georg Bauer.
Further expansion
The announcement gives no dates for other Volkswagen models or expansion beyond California.
