Volkswagen Group of America is recalling certain 2025 Tiguan vehicles because a software error can make the body control module reset unexpectedly (opens in a new tab). The recall covers 49,958 potentially affected vehicles under NHTSA campaign 26V587000, which the manufacturer lists as 57KL.
A reset can switch the ignition off and stall the engine. It can also take out certain controls, warning lights and exterior lighting, and it can cause the rearview camera system to fail. Because of that, the affected Tiguans do not meet FMVSS 101, 102, 108 and 111. NHTSA says an engine stall, failed exterior or warning lights, or a rearview camera failure can each increase crash risk.
The component in the recall record is listed as the electrical system. NHTSA received the report on September 10, 2026.
What owners should do
Dealers will update the body control module software at no charge. Volkswagen expects to mail owner notification letters on November 6, 2026. Owners can call Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.
Affected VINs are searchable on NHTSA.gov as of September 17, 2026. The recall record does not tell owners to stop driving or to park outside.
